About Paratransit
Hub City Transit Paratransit (Demand Response) is a shared-ride, door-to-door service for riders who cannot use fixed-route buses because of a disability. It operates within ¾ mile of HCT routes and follows ADA requirements. It is a safety net and does not replace fixed routes when they are accessible.
Who is eligible
Eligibility is based on functional ability to use fixed-route service, determined through an application—not just a diagnosis. You may qualify if:
- You cannot use fixed-route service without assistance.
- You could use fixed-route service if vehicles or stops were accessible.
- Your disability prevents you from traveling to or from a bus stop.
Eligibility is typically valid for three years unless temporary eligibility is granted.
Service area, days, and hours
Trips must start and end within ¾ mile of HCT routes at a safe, designated location.
- Monday–Friday: 6:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
- No weekend service.
- No service on: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day. Additional closures are posted in advance.
How to apply
Call (601) 545-4670, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to request an application. Complete it yourself and include verification from a licensed or certified healthcare professional. Provide full information to avoid delays. Eligibility is determined within 21 business days after a completed application is received. Approved riders must obtain a Paratransit ID card before scheduling trips.
Scheduling a ride
- Call (601) 545-4670 to schedule.
- Schedule up to 14 days in advance; same-day trips are not available.
- Pickups operate within a 30-minute window; trips are first-come, first-served.
- Allow flexibility for shared rides, traffic, and operational factors.
- Door-to-door is provided when safe; otherwise curb-to-curb is used.
Traveling with support
- One Personal Care Attendant (PCA) may ride at no cost; companions may ride if space is available.
- Children may accompany a certified rider; safety seat rules apply.
- Paratransit vehicles have wheelchair lifts and securements; devices must fit safely and be in good condition.
- Service animals are permitted under ADA guidelines; personal pets are not allowed.
Rider responsibilities
- Be ready during your pickup window.
- Present a valid Paratransit ID card.
- Cancel trips at least one hour in advance.
- Follow safety and conduct guidelines; repeated no-shows or late cancellations may result in suspension.
